It take a lot of courage to survive, because you have to take risks that could mean life or death
In order to survive a challenge you have to be persistent and determined. You need to be determined because if you don't set your mind to something and work towards it you're never going to accomplish anything. You also need to be persistent because if something is a challenge its going to take more than one try in order to accomplish something and if you don't keep trying you're never going to be able to complete/ survive the challenge.
To survive any kind of challenge it takes perseverance, determination, and hard work. You have to be willing to push yourself out of your comfort zone. More than anything you have to be courageous, being courageous means taking risks and being brave. In Hatchet Brian is courageous, for example, Brian tries to get the emergency pack from inside the plane. He is determined to succeed therefore Brain accomplishes his goal, and walks away with satisfaction.
A challenge is something that is considered difficult to the person confronted with it. To face a challenge you need to persevere and have courage to follow through. You need to persevere because, chances are, you fail more than once when trying to complete a challenge. You need to have courage because sometimes things that are hard or difficult can seem scary and, in Brian's case, actually really are very scary. Courage and perseverance are two very important traits to complete a challenge.
What would the world be without a phone? Steve Jobs invented our iPhone that we use every day. If Steve Jobs would not have taken a risk are world would change forever. Think about your life without a phone… you could not just look up a restaurant to go to, you could not snap your friend a picture of you, you would not be able to live without an electronic. People take risks because they want to change something, even if you don’t realize it you are trying to change something. Risks can sometimes lead to a bad thing, for example, you want headphones you can take a risk and steal them yet, risks are good in some ways also, such as take a risk and think out of the box in math class.
Sorry, this answer was for question number 1
It takes confidence, you have to do a risk that might cost your life. going through a challenge is tough, you have to give yourself confidence to make it through a rough and difficult challenge.
Confidence. Even if you are afraid you can still be confident that you will survive any challenge. Whether it's learning how to jump on a horse, or writing cursive. No matter how hard or easy the challenge might be you have to be confident and believe in yourself and your abilities to get you through.
People need to have many of these qualities to survive: hope, courage, bravery, patience, determination, intelligence, energy, and ambition. Brian, the main character in Hatchet, demonstrated hope when he kept thinking someone was going to discover him in the Canadian forest. There were times when planes flew right over him, not spotting him, but he never gave up hope. Brian showed courage when he had to try to land the plane in a safe spot so he would not die. Brian showed energy when he crawled away from the moose that attacked him. In addition Brian showed determindation and hard work by hunting for more food to eat and building a new shelter out of sticks near the lake after the tornado struck.
It takes determination, courage, and strength to survive any type of challenge. Without that you wouldn't have any idea what you would need to do, you wouldn't have any idea how to brace yourself for the journey and you wouldn't want to do it.
It takes determination, hard work, and hope to survive any kind of challenge. Determination is a key part to the story Hatchet. Brian was determined to fly the plane when he didn't know how to fly. You need hard work to survive a challenge because if you don't give 100% you won't achieve your goals. For example, if you play a sport and never practice you won't get any better. Finally, you need hope; Brian believed that people would find him so he never gave up.
To survive a challenge, it takes lots of determination, hard work, and patience. You need determination to survive a challenge because if you stop trying, then nothing will get done. When a challenge is given, you need to try and try again. To survive a challenge, it takes lots of hard work. You need hard work to survive a challenge because overcoming a challenge isn't easy. A challenge requires hard work to overcome. And, lastly, a challenge requires patience. Patience is very important. If you become impatient, and get mad that it is taking some much time, this will lead to anger. And anger will only make your problem harder. To sum up, three things are needed to overcome a challenge. Determination, hard work, and patience.
It takes a lot to survive any kind of challenge. Some of those traits are zest, grit, optimism and risk taking, which we have discussed in other questions. You also need to be resourceful. Being resourceful allows you to pull on past experiences and knowledge. Being resourceful also helps someone think of ways to use items or things differently. Brian was resourceful because he used many different items that he found in nature to help him survive.
To survive any challenge it takes a lot of things. Some are courage, determination, perseverance, intelligence and risk taking. If Brian in the book hatchet didn't have these things, then he would not have gone down to the bottom of the lake to retrieve his hatchet.
To survive any kind of challenge one needs optimism, determination, and a reason. Optimism gives you hope, a reason why you want to complete the challenge, or why you are doing it, and determination to make sure you push through it.
HATCHET: Without optimism Brian would not have gotten through living in the woods for more than two months. Having optimism ties in with having a reason to keep going. Brian survived because when he first got lost in the Canadian woods, he kept thinking of his teacher; Mr. Perpich, who always stayed positive. (pg. 45 - 51) Because of Mr. Peperich, Brian found optimism and told himself to stop thinking in negative ways. After that, Brian found a reason to live. His mother and father, and thinking of them gave him something to hold onto. He wanted to get back to his parents, even if he was angry about The Secret; which gave him his determination to survive, push through, and see them again. Brian survived because of his optimism, a reason to live, and determination.
You need perseverance to survive in any situation because you need to push through what ever is holding you back, like Brian did when he did everything in this book. He had to push away the secret because, if he didn't, then he would probably have passed away right when the plane crashed. He persevered when the plane was driven off course, and it started to descend from the air, he took the steering wheel and he tried to steer the plane to safety. This leads to my next trait which is audacity. It takes audacity to grab the wheel. Brian had so much courage trough out this whole book, from the start(when he grabbed the wheel) to the very end (when he went into the almost submerged plane, to get the survival pack). To survive in multiple different challenges take a ton of more important traits and persistence. Brian had a ton of persistence when it comes to survival. He never gave up on caching the fish, stabilizing a house, hunting the birds, and even lighting a fire. All of these traits contribute to help anyone survive any kind of challenge.
If you want to survive any kind of challenge you need to have bravery which is to have courageous behavior or character. This is necessary to over come a challenge because when you might be scared or afraid you need to be brave an over come your fear this is the 1st step to overcoming any type of challenge. You also need perseverance which is not giving up, it is persistence and tenacity, the effort required to do something and keep doing it till the end, even if it's hard. You need perseverance when you are losing sight of the finish line, that's were perseverance can help because perseverance helps keep you going until you finish a goal like completing a challenge. Another thing you need is hope which is a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen. Hope is something you need because when you think everything is going wrong you need to have hope which will help you want something good to happen and will help you keep going in the challenge. Lastly you need courage which is the ability to do something that frightens a person. The last thing you need to overcome any challenge is courage because when you are scared and frighted courage pushes you to overcome the challenge. If you use all these characteristics you will be able to overcome any obstacle you may face.
Sorry I spelled my name wrong
Everybody faces challenges. Challenges are usually hard tasks that people typically do not want to do. But challenges are what help us grow every day. Challenges can be running a mile without stopping or walking, being organized, doing the harder question on your math quiz for extra credit, or simply just waking up every morning and getting ready for the day. But to face and survive any challenge, you need the traits of spirited character, perseverance, determination, hope, enthusiasm, courage, and mental strength. You should also have something worth fighting for, a goal, or something positive to look up to after the challenge. For me, a challenge that I feel can be a good example of displaying these traits is during a cross country race. Everybody wants to win or be the best. That is what I look forward to, to keep me going or to keep trying during a race. I always want to look back so that I don't get passed, but really, I should be looking forward so that I can pass others. During our most important cross country meet of the season last year, I was scared that I was going to be passed and beat, so I was mentally exhaughted before the race. During the race, I got a really bad cramp and my breathing became extremely heavy. At the last 100 meters of the race, I just wanted to stop and not finish, but all of the people cheering me on and hope for my team kept me going. I finished the race, and did not win, having 4 out of 5 people on my team and many other teams pass me up. But in my book, I was still a winner (not physically) because I kept going and decided not to stop or look back, but look ahead for the team and learn that it is not just an individual effort. An example of these traits can also be found in the book, Hatchet, on page 164-170. Brian faced two huge life changing challenges on these pages. After the tornado, Brian had remembered that the emergency pack was in the tail of the plane and the tail was sticking out of the water, so he found an opportunity to get that emergency pack which could help him rebuild his camp and survive. Brian went into the water and swam to the plane. All of the openings were underwater, so Brian could not find a way in. He knew it wasn't going to be easy, but he kept trying. Brian discovered that the aluminum on the plane was very weak and he could force his way in with his hatchet. He broke the aluminum, but then dropped his hatchet to the bottom of the lake. Brian dove down looking for it and eventually found it at the bottom of the muddy lake. He continued making a passage in the plane until it was big enough for him to go through. Brian looked around the plane until he finally found the emergency pack (and the decaying pilot). The next day Brian opened the pack and thought he was rich with all that he had. Brian had displayed many of the traits listed above and definitely had something worth fighting for in the end. He never gave up, saw hope in the future, and had a lot of spirit to pull off what he did. Not only that, but there was a lot of risk involved and he could have died. These are two examples on what it takes to survive or complete a challenge.
Challenges are somethings that everyone has to overcome. Obstacles that stand in our way, and we need to get past them. It takes focus, to think about what you're doing. You must be confident that you will get past these challenges. Lastly it takes determination, to never give up. To accomplish your goal.
It takes bravery to to survive a challenge. if you are not brave and not willing to sacrifice things then you will not survive the challenge. You also need dedication and to want to complete the challenge. Lastly it takes hope. The willingness to never quit or give up even when all the odds are stacked against you. Thats what it takes to survive a challenge
It takes bravery to to survive a challenge. if you are not brave and not willing to sacrifice things then you will not survive the challenge. You also need dedication and to want to complete the challenge. Lastly it takes hope. The willingness to never quit or give up even when all the odds are stacked against you. Thats what it takes to survive a challenge.
Hope. You need hope to survive any challenge. It could be the hope in your knowledge (like it mentions in Hatchet) or hope in your ability. In Hatchet, Brian starts off hoping for a search plane to come and rescue him, but later on that hope is gone. His new hope is in his knowledge. Hope in the fact that he could learn and survive and take care of himself.
It takes Hope and Determination to survive any challenge. You would need to be determined to get through the challenge you are in. In the book Hatchet, Brian was determined to survive in the wilderness alone. Brian was also determined to break into the airplane to get the safety packet. It also takes hope to survive a challenge. In the book Hatchet, Brian hopes for an airplane to come and rescue him.
To survive a challenge a person needs to have confidence, bravery, and morals! A person needs confidence because it's important to believe that you can do something, to believe in yourself. Bravery gives a person the guts to take the challenge and keep moving forward, to make sure that you don't give up. Morals are needed for your personal foundation to help guide you through the challenge and staying true to yourself and your beliefs.
It takes strength and knowing you will survive. You also have to make the most of your surroundings. An example is if you're alone in the forest like Brian you will have to kill animals and make the most of what you have.
Some skills that you need to have in order to survive any challenge is: hope, patience, and perseverance. In the book, Brian had hope at the beginning that a search plane would come. But when he plane left him, he lost all hope and gave up and thought he would never get off the island but, that's were perseverance came in. Brian still did all the very difficult tasks with the thought that a search plane would come. Also, when bad things came, like the tornado, Brian lost everything he had. He was so upset and thought he would die out there but, with hope and perseverance, Brian managed to build a new shelter, get a fire going again, find food, make new weapons, and many more things in order to survive a little while longer. You also need patience in order to survive a challenge. Brian was rushing to get everything he could done everyday before dark when sometimes he hit a few bumps in the road. But he knew, if he would just be a little patient, things would get done faster and more efficiently.
In survival situations it takes much perseverance to survive because if you believe in a goal that you set for yourself you will meet that goal and succeed in life. If you don't believe you can succeed something that's exactly what will happen in the results. In the Hatchet by Gary Paulsen Brian persevered to get food, make a shelter, make a fire, and get water. He does this by making a spear that travels through water and impales fish.
We all have challenges in our lives. From learning to walk to paying the bills. Challenges are not easy. That’s what makes them a challenge. Challenges can be complicated and take effort to push you out of your comfort zone. If leaving your comfort zone is difficult you will need powerful qualities to survive the challenge at hand. You will need to be persistent, hopeful, patient, confident, passionate, strong-willed, and positive. With these qualities people will be able to stick with a challenge even when challenges get tough.
To be successful and survive challenges it takes determination, perseverance, and the mentality to never give up. You have to make the best of things and be able to work with the things around you.You also have to be intelligent because from the book Hatchet one mistake can change everything and have a fatal consequence even death. Also having a great mindset can change how productive and positive you are. If you don't have those things you would never want to do anything and step out of your comfort zone. So it is very important to keep yourself happy and hard working.
To survive any kind of challenge you need intelligence, fortitude, and strength. You need intelligence because in order to think of the steps you need to take, you need to plan ahead. In Hatchet, by Gary Paulsen, Brian came head to head with a bear while he was out in the woods. He needed to think of what he was going to do because he knew that there was no way that he could attack the bear and win. Only a fool would run and charge the bear so in order to survive this challenge, he had to gather his wits and do nothing so the bear would find him harmless. To survive the way Brian did you also have to have fortitude. Fortitude helps you because you need to have courage and hope with whatever situation you are in. Ever since his parents divorce, Brian had to keep The Secret away from his dad. After the plan crashed, Brian needed fortitude because he was already filled with so much grief and pain. So he took the pain and grief and he made courage out of it because he knew it would help him survive. Mental strength is just as important as physical strength because if Brian did not have mental strength then he would have been lost and he might not have the will to keep on living after the plane crash. He had to be strong to survive such a tragedy at such a young age. To survive a challenge you need to be a very strong, spirited, and hopeful person no matter what happens in life.
It takes courage, gut, and perseverance to overcome any challenge.
For example, when Brian comes face to face with a moose that continuously tries to hurt him, Brian does not give up on trying to get away. Another example of when Brian persevere was when he could not spear the fish in the lake. Brian kept trying to spear the fish so he had food. He also did not give up on killing the fool birds.
Brian also had a lot of courage when he was stranded in the woods. When Brian found a patch of raspberries and was picking them for a snack, he had a very close encounter with a bear. Even though Brian was shaken by the appearance of the bear, he had courage and did not run away but waited for the bear to pass. Brian also had courage when he decided to go and get the survival pack. Brian knew that at the tip of the plane there was the dead pilot, witch did give him the shivers but he still decided to get the survival pack so that he could have a higher chance of survival in the woods.
Brian also stuck with his gut when he did things, he knew that he had to get food and did not get let down when he failed but only kept trying. Brian also followed his gut when he knew that he was doing things wrong and decided to change that to what he knew was right.
Perseverance, gut, and courage are very important traits to survive.
In order to survive any kind of challenge it takes perseverance, thrive, and hope. In challenges there are always going to be ups and downs, and through that wide range of emotions you have to be able to find your center, and exile from within. In the book, Brian, the main character had to find these emotions within him to control the drama through the whole process. Some of the challenges he went through were horrific. He had to learn how to fly a plane to safety by himself, he had to survive with no food for days, he had to keep deep dark secrets for the expansion of his life, and many more. These are just a few of the many challenges Brian face, but what he learned from them is what truly stuck. Through each and every challenge Brain gained something, that would help him with the next. He made new mistakes not old. Brian was able to connect all his emotions in a calm way, and that is what you need to survive a challenge.
When you are trying to survive, you need determination and courage
You need determination to survive because you need to be focused on the one topic (surviving).
You need courage because you need to be strong and not to be scared of dying.
Any challenge a person is faced with whether it is the hardest thing in the world or even as easy as brushing your teeth, you need to have perseverance, bravery, and a sense of hope to accomplish it. Without perseverance every challenge you are faced with or when times get tough you would just give up and not try to accomplish your goal. Without bravery you would not be able to take risks so when you faced with something difficult you would be to scared to even make an effort to get over that challenge. And lastly, without hope you would never have anything to look forward to so when you are faced with a challenge you not as motivated to beat it. In conclusion, all three of these factors are very important when it comes to completing a challenge, and without them you never be able to overcome any obstacle that comes your way.
To survive any kind of challenge you need to have perseverance, courage and intelligence. Brian perseveres when he tries to start a fire using the hatchet and keeps trying to use different wood and bark until it works. Also Brian perseveres when trying to spear the fish for food and cooking it. It also takes courage to survive any kind of challenge like when Brian is in the woods and finds raspberry bushes for food he has an encounter with a bear and he has the courage to not run away and wait until the bear leaves. Another trait that you need to survive any kind of challenge like intelligence. Brain uses intelligence when thinking of the survival kit that would be in the crashed plane and when building a raft to get to the boat.
It takes determination, courage, optimism, and a motivation to survive any kind of challenge. A challenge is different for everybody. A challenge for you might mean doing the three extra credit questions on your homework but for someone else it might mean going to multiple swim practices a day. Whatever the challenge, having determination, courage, optimism, and a motivation will definitely help you along.
In Hatchet, Brian was determined to survive and with that came the determination to find food and make a fire to keep to mosquitoes away.
"I am going to find some food. I am going to find some berries." (page 58) This shows that he is determined to find food and this skill helped him to find some because once you decide to do some thing turning back is like giving up. But he didn't give up. On pages 85-87 he is determined to make a fire and that determination keeps him from giving up and he eventually succeeds.
You also have to have courage, which is the mental strength to persevere in times of difficulty. Brian had lots of courage. He had the courage to keep swimming to the plane with the heavy raft (page 159). If he hadn't had the courage to keep going and had turned back he never would've gotten the survival pack which had the emergency transmitter. To have courage is very similar to being determined because both of them is a driving force that keeps you going.
You have to have optimism to survive a challenge. Having optimism gives you hope and confidence that the future will be good. Brian didn't have too much optimism at times but he did have enough to keep him pushing forward. He eventually gave up hoping that someone would rescue him (he left a tiny sliver of hope) but he did not give up hoping that he would survive. And he survive. All because he had hope, had optimism.
Lastly to survive any type of challenge you need a motivation. "I have to get motivated, he thought." (page 51) Brian's motivation was his mom and Terry. He used his mom as a motivation by thinking of the food that she made him and that helped him stay motivated to keep finding food. He was used his friends, Terry, as a motivation by thinking of the time the pretended they were lost in the wild. That helped him think of the itms he needed to make to be able to survive, like the lean to from their game was the inspiration for his shelter.
In conclusion determination, courage, optimism, and a motivation are all things you have to have to survive any kind of challenge. These are all driving forces that keep you going through a challenge of any kind.
It takes courage, bravery to survive any challenge. And if it is a team challenge that you have to succeed then it takes teamwork and sometimes honesty.
It takes hard work, effort, and Persuence to over come any challenge because hard work always pays off in the end and persuence is the meaning in keep trying until you get it.
It takes hope to survive any challenge. Brian was really hungry and couldn't eat anything. Brian thought that he would never be rescued.
A challenge is a difficult task that tests your abilities. A challenge is meant to change your ways of thinking, it is supposed to be difficult so it may take time. You need to have patience, so that you don't rush over things and make a mistake. You also need to persevere and keep working through the challenge no matter how hard it gets. You need to keep working through it. You will also need to be brave and be prepared, because you don't know what will be thrown at you. You will also need to have confidence. Lastly, you need to believe in yourself. You need to believe in yourself because if you let people bring you down, you will get nowhere.
In the book Hatchet, Brian is faced with a challenge of survival. This challenge was forced on him, and he accepted it with a positive attitude and careful actions. Brian keeps on believing that a rescue plane will come and find him and he keeps his hopes high! And a reason he keeps on perservering is because he reminds himself everyday that when he gets home he'll treat himself to a large hamburger! Brian is also very brave because when he was eating berries off of the bush a bear came up to home to eat the berries, too. Even though Brian was scared his bravery and hunger overpowered him and he ate with the bear. Brian was also very patient because when he was building his raft to reach the plane to get the rescue pack, it took over 2 hours but Brian didn't turn because of time, he kept on going. Also, Brian was very patient for the rescue plane to come. Brian was also prepared because he saved his food for days that he didn't have much food. Also, when Brian was fishing he knew he was doing something wrong but he kept on telling himself that he could do it and he believed he could do it and then finally got the hang Of spear fishing. But one thing Brian always did was perservere, although sometimes Brian thought he wouldn't survive, or he wouldn't be able to get food it always worked out well.
Overall, in order to survive a challenge, you need to be brave, be prepared, perservere, you need to be patient, be confident, and believe in yourself.
To overcome any challenge you must be persistent in spite of the difficulty and continue firmly. you need to be courageous and not deterred by danger or pain. Which Brian was always facing. In Brian's case he was immensely courageous and persistent throughout the book. As he had to be to overcome his challenges.
It takes courage, hard work and determination to face and survive any challenge. These three traits are constantly shown throughout Hatchet, as Brian is thrown into one of the hardest challenges any person could face. It took courage to steer the plane when the pilot had a heart attack. Hard work and determination were always part of Brian's adventure. He was constantly looking for more food, constantly working towards his eventual goal of getting home. Overall, it takes hard work, determination and courage to face and survive a challenge.
A challenge is something that is considered difficult, and that you sometimes don't want to do. Challenges are a major part of life though, and you will be confronted by many of them in your life. But challenges are what help you grow as a person. To survive a challenge you need perseverance, determination, patience, hard work, and courage. It also helps to have a goal to drive you forward.
In the book Hatchet, Brian faces many challenges. One of these is that the pilot of his plane died from a heart attack, and he had to fly the plane. This took lots of courage, and eventually he crashed into a lake. Another of these were that he had to get food. On page 58 he said, "I am going to find food. I am going to find some berries." This shows his determination to find the berries and he eventually does. Another example is that he had to get rid of the mosquitos that were eating him alive. He knew that he had to make a fire. But he didn't know how. But one night he threw his hatchet and it hit the cave wall and made a spark. Then he knew if he struck the rock with the hatchet in would make sparks. But he had to figure out a way to harness the sparks and make a fire. And with a lot of patience, perseverence, and hard work, he gets a fire going that keeps away mosquitos. A final example of Brian overcoming a challenge, is when he has to somehow get to the plane (which is in the middle of the lake) to get the survival kit. He builds a raft out of logs, which took a lot of hard work, and he eventually swims the raft out to the plane. He broke into the plane and swim into it to grab the kit. This took a lot of courage. And he swam it back, even though he was exhausted, he persevered through it and got back to shore.
Challenges are part of life, and even though you might want to give up, keep trying and eventually you will succeed.
The traits that you'll need to survive any challenge would be persistence, courage, and confidence. Persistence can help to keep you going even when you might run out of time, and to help look forward. Courage helps in the face of your fear to overcome and take control of the fear inside you. Confidence helps through times that may be tough and may seem imposible, but with confidence that feeling stays no more. All of these 3 traits help through a challenge.
When it comes to surviving any kind of challenge, persistence, commitment and optimism will get you through the challenge. Persistence keeps you going even when you think you cant take one more step. Persistence will get you through your hardest times and keep you moving. Commitment is also one of the biggest things to get your through a challenge. Commitment keeps you glued to the task you are trying to complete. Without commitment you could give and at anytime in life. Finally optimism. Staying positive and optimistic will get you through any doubts that you have on your journey and propel you through any darkness in life. In Brian's case he had trouble trying to start the fire it took time to think about what he needed to get the fire going it also took patience but the biggest thing in this case was persistence. Without persistence Brian would have given up and not been able to create the fire.
To survive any kind of challenge you have to be brave and trust yourself. One of the hardest challenges that life throws at you is staying positive even when you're going through a hard time. Brian was very good at staying optimistic because he still kept hope. To survive a challenge you must be open to taking risks and have perseverance. Something that is important is keeping trust. If you do not trust yourself you cannot trust that you will survive the challenge. Also you must commit to it or else you might be harmed. There are many traits you need to survive any kind of challenge.
In order to survive any challenge it takes being determined and brave. You need to be determined because if something doesn't work the first time you need to keep trying until you get it right. Also you have to be brave because you need to be brave enough to try new things that will help you survive any challenge.
To survive any kind of challenge you need to use your brain and think about everything logically, to not lose hope, to think through all your options, and to take risks only when necessary, like Brian swimming down to the plane.
To survive any challenge you first need to believe you can. If you don't believe you can do it, you cant. You need to have determination. You have to look at the task ahead, and tell yourself, you can do this, and do it. and lastly you need to be brave. challenges an be hard, but if you persevere, and don't back down, you can complete it.
It takes hard work and determination to get through the challenge
everybody faces challenges in there time time. You have to be determined. I you aren't determined that you'll never get other the challenge.
What does it really take to survive a challenge? Well you need a lot of perseverance, confidence, bravery, and courage. And u need a motivation to help you push threw and survive
Surviving a challenge takes more than just courage. Surviving a challenge takes risks, many of them. A risk is not JUST acting out of your comfort zone, its not JUST doing something not many people don't do, a risk is a courageous, ambitious, or scary perhaps action. If you are face to face with a life or death situation, you would do almost ANYTHING to survive right? That "ANYTHING" is simply just one thing, and that is a risk.
Many times in the book Hatchet, Brian is faced with a life or death situation, he doesn't realize it at first but as time passes he realizes that in order to survive you almost always HAVE to take a risk. He took many risks throughout the book, for example the time when he found a bear, staring down at him as he was picking raspberrys. Now he could have ran away from the bear, but he didn't do that. In fact he stood right there and waited for the bear to acknowledge him and walk away. This could have turned into a life or death situation but Brian took a risk and put himself in front of what the little voice in his head told him to do.
In order to take a risk you have to ignore that little voice in your head telling you to "hold back" and "stay within your comfort zone," instead you have to listen to your heart always, and trust your instincts. Hard work, determination, and courage were always just "there" with in Brian, he just had to find those traits inside himself and dig deep in order to use them. As you can see, it takes a lot to survive a challenge, especially one as hard as Brian's.
Correction : in the second sentence I meant to say : A risk is not JUST acting out of your comfort zone, its not JUST doing something not many people do, a risk is a courageous, ambitious, or scary perhaps action.
In life, there are always going to be challenges. It's a fact. There is no way we can escape the challenges we have to face, but it's how we take on the challenge and deal with them. When reading the book Hatchet by Gary Paulsen, I really understood what you need to take on a challenge.
There are many things you need to survive a challenge, but some of the most important things to me are optimism, mental strength, courage, and hope.
Optimism is incredibly important when surviving a challenge. Often times when we encounter challenges, we tend to focus on the things that could go wrong. We sometimes tend to look on the bad side of things. In the book, there were many things that were not very good. The plane crashed, he no survival gear besides the hatchet his mom gave him, he had no food, and was bruised and swollen everywhere. Brian could have sat there for days and weeks, just thinking about the bad things that happened to him. Instead, he gets up and tries to make something good out of what he has around him. As the book progresses, he ends up finding good sources of food, water, and shelter. He was optimistic and decided to find the good in the situation and not the bad.
Optimism is not all though. Another essential thing you need is mental strength. We we encounter challenges, we sometimes get defeated. We feel like quitting and giving up. An example of this is in chapter 15 when Brian tries to hunt a bird for a source of food. He tries for hours and hours, and at one point, he almost wants to give up. It was really hard for him, but he had the mental strength to get through it. Instead of walking away and giving up, he thinks about what he is doing wrong. In the end, he finally caught the bird. If he had not had the mental strength to keep on trying, he would have not had that source of meat that he craved.
While challenges require optimism and mental strength, it also requires courage. Challenges require taking risks, and going through harsh and tough times. There is no room for fear, and Brian is a great example of this. When Brain is hungry and decides to look for berries. He is alone in the woods, with wild animals everywhere. At this point in the book, it was his main source of food, and he needed it to survive. He knew that he could not risk his meal because of fear.
Last but not least, you need hope. This is such an important thing to have beacuse it can motivate you through the challenge. At the beginning of the book, he is swollen and unwell. He has hope though. He has hope that the search planes will come and get him. That really motivated him to get up and do something productive. Without the hope, he could not really look forward to anything.
Optimism, mental strength, courage, and hope are truly the things you need to survive the challenges of life.
In order to survive any kind of challenge, you need determination and perserverance. If you immediately give up or quit in a situation, you can never overcome anything. In Brian's situation, it was life or death. If he gave up and was lazy, he would've died from starvation. But, he never game up and kept going on with the mindset that things would get better and that someone would find him. Although there was a little slump in the middle where he just wanted to end it all, he gained back the determined mindset and he survived. This is why you ned determination and perseverance to survive any situation.
